Toilet Fizzies

Fizzies!

Not a huge fan of cleaning the toilet? Well, here’s a little something to help stretch the time between cleanings just a little longer!

These fizzies are super easy to drop into the toilet bowl whenever you like! Once a day, once a week, or when it could use a freshness boost. I keep them over my toilet, so they’re easy to access. I love watching them fizz and they smell amazing, so it’s a good thing they’re so easy to make!

Materials

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Mixing spoon
  • Molds – ice cube trays or chocolate molds work great!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/3 Cup Citric Acid
  • 1/4 Cup Corn Starch
  • Essential Oils 15 drops each (I used Lavender and Lemon)
  • White Vinegar (best to have in a spray bottle)
  • Food Coloring (optional)

Steps

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Slowly add the wet ingredients starting with about 15 drops each of the essential oils of your choice, followed by any food coloring (keep it light to avoid coloring your toilet bowl). It should already smell great!
  3. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Spritz the white vinegar into the mixture and keep stirring. You may get some fizzing. That’s totally normal, but it means you’re adding liquid too quickly.
  5. Slowly add more white vinegar until the mixture sticks together enough that you can squeeze it without it all falling apart. It should be mostly dry, but tacky enough to hold together! It can take a couple tries to find the right consistency. Be patient!
  6. Pack the mixture into your chosen containers.
  7. Let your fizzies dry overnight! Once dry, they are ready for use! Store in an airtight container to avoid exposure to moisture.

Tips from my experience:

  • The first time I made these, I poured in small amounts of vinegar at a time. I ended up pouring it in too fast, so it fizzed too much and wouldn’t settle in the molds. They kept expanding while they were drying! The spray bottle helped me control how much liquid I was adding, and they turned out a lot better, which I why I recommend that method.
  • Use any essential oils that smell good to you! I love lavender, so tend to use it at every available opportunity.

Let me know how it works out for you!
